SUGGESTED SUMMER MATH ACTIVITIES AND READING LIST FOR GRADE 1

Dear Parents,

   Please make time for math and reading with your child during the summer. The on-line Math IXL program is recommended for great math activities. When doing IXL consider focusing on these skills: geometry; shapes, measurement, data, graphs, patterns, numbers, sorting.

Also, the following guide includes some favorite authors and books that are too good to miss. Many local libraries offer excellent summer reading programs for your child’s participation.

   We welcome your child to the first grade. Listed below are the supplies your child will need for September.

BACKPACK (THIS IS TO FIT IN THE LOCKER)               CRAYONS

PENCIL CASE/ ART BOX       1 PACK 3X5 INDEX  CARDS                    1 BOX OF TISSUES

WASHABLE MARKERS                     2 PAPER TOWEL ROLLS

 

SCHOLASTIC MAGAZINE has been ordered for each child.

As you and your child enjoy the summer vacation, we hope you will find these suggestions of summer activities helpful.

*Set aside time to read with your child each day.

*Visit the library. Help your child get a library card and participate in a summer reading program.

*Build a climate of words. Share experiences and extend your child’s vocabulary with new words and meanings.

*Make a scrapbook  for your child to start a collection of stamps, flowers, animals, or pictures.

*Share cooking and shopping activities together  to aid math skills.

*Most importantly,

Pray together every day.
