Coaches/Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in joining the St. John’s Sports Association. Our program would not exist without our coaches and program volunteers. Please learn more below and reach out to us if you have questions or can help in any way.

Coaches

Coaches are crucial to our ability to provide a great experience for all our kids. Extensive experience is not required but there are several requirements coaches must complete in order to ensure a safe and positive environment.

All first-time coaches/volunteers must complete a Volunteer Application, which includes authorization to run a background check.

All first-time coaches/volunteers must review the Archdiocese Conduct Policies and sign/return the last page.

This one-night course is required every four years. Volunteers will be required to show the certificates before each season. To view and register for an upcoming session:

  • Visit the Virtus Online registration page ↗
  • Click on View a List of Sessions
  • For the choice of Organization, choose Newark, NJ
  • For Session Type, choose Protecting God’s Children for Adults

All coaches must read, sign and return the CYO Coaches Covenant.

Though not required, it is recommended for coaches to complete the one-night Rutgers SAFETY Clinic. You can view the schedule and register on the Rutgers SAFETY Clinic website ↗

Volunteers

Our program volunteers help manage and run the day to day operations. There are various roles where help is needed at any given time, including:

  • Concessions
  • Uniform coordinator
  • Communications/Media coordinator
  • Equipment Manager
  • And more
