Mrs. Luciano's Class Adopts a Soldier

Mrs. Luciano’s 7th grade religion class chose to honor and support our deployed troops this past Christmas through the Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon program.  Students purchased suggested items supplied by the Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon program and, along with a class Christmas card, shipped their packages to arrive by Christmas.

One student in particular, went above and beyond the required items. He used his birthday money to purchase an X-Box along with controllers and games and mailed them to the attention of their adopted soldier, Major Dawes, 438th Medical Detachment Veterinary Service Support (MDVSS).

In return, a relationship was born. Weekly emails between the students and Major Dawes ensued, and as a show of the soldiers’ gratitude, two Appreciation Awards, each consisting of an American flag flown on base over the free skies of Afghanistan, was correctly folded my Major Dawes, framed, and mailed to the school, one assigned to the class and one to a very special young man.
