SJA Observes Pope Francis's Visit
Students at SJA participated in several activities to commemorate the Holy Father's first visit to the US.
Grades 1 & 2 drew pictures of the Pope and offered prayers for him everyday.
Grade 3 read 2 books about the life of Pope Francis and wrote poems and colored pictures of him.
Grade 4 followed his journey every day and learned how a pope picks his name. They wrote two questions they would like to ask the Pope.
Grade 5 watched the live feed of the parade in Washington, DC and his speech at the capitol. They also took a "picture with the Pope" (see photo below)
Grade 6 watched the Pope speaking to Congress. His words prompted a discussion of what the world needs now and a Social Studies lesson was tied in with his visit and his committment to Hope for the world.
The Junior High students held a prayer service outside on the grounds of the school, scattering seeds for the birds in honor of Pope Francis's namesake. (See photo below) They also collected pet food for an animal shelter and food for the local food pantry in the pope's name.
