The primary mission of the Student Council is service - service to our school, St. John's Academy, and to our community.
In 2009-2010 the student council raised money for NFFR (National Foundation for Facial Reconstruction) and for The Lymphona Research Foundation (LRF).
NFFR is an organization that helps children and adults who suffer with facial differences due to birth, trauma or disease and helps them get the plastic surgery to repair the damage so they may feel good about themselves again.
Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer and it causes 11% of childhood cancers and is considered the most common blood cancer. It is a fast growing cancer and public awareness is very poor. LRF hopes to raise awareness and fund research to find a cure for this deadly disease.
Thanks to all the dedicated members of the 2009-2010 Student Council we were able to donate $500 to NFFR and $500 to LRF. We also held a special bracelet sale to raise funds to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. We raised over $600 for that charity as well. We also donated another $500 to our school, St. John's Academy. The 2008-2009 Student Council donation was used to purchase a new podium for our assemblies.
We thank all the students and families of SJA who support our fundraising efforts and are true examples of Christian charity and love for humankind.
